SplitMe
Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 20, 2026
SplitMe ("SplitMe," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Kaevon Zanjani. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use the SplitMe iOS application, related websites (including splitme.expo.app), and invite links that open in a browser.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we process about users of the Service. It does not apply to third-party websites, apps, or payment services you may open from SplitMe (such as Venmo, Cash App, or Apple Messages). Those services have their own privacy policies.
By creating an account or using SplitMe, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
•
Account and identity: email address; password (hashed and managed by our authentication provider); display name; Apple Sign In identifier and name/email when you choose Sign in with Apple.
•
Payment handoff information: Venmo username, Cash App cashtag, and/or Apple Cash phone number that you voluntarily save. These handles are private by default and are shown only to another participant who has a current payment obligation to you.
•
Bill and collaboration data: split and group titles, merchants, dates, line items, quantities, prices, tax, tip, discounts, service fees, notes, participant lists, item claims, calculated shares, balances, settlement records, and payment-status flags you or other participants enter or update.
•
Invitations: invite tokens and metadata needed to let others join a split or group. Invite URLs contain secrets and should be treated like passwords.
•
Receipt scanning (optional): if you scan or import a receipt photo, the image is transmitted to our servers for automated OCR and parsing, then discarded. We retain scan-attempt metadata (for example timestamps, byte size, success/failure, and latency) for quotas and abuse prevention—not the photo or extracted merchant/item text.
•
Notifications: if you enable payment notifications, we request notification permission, then store your notification preference and a device push token so we can deliver optional reminders and paid-status notices through Apple Push Notification service (APNs) via Expo.
•
Device and usage data: app version, platform, coarse online/offline state, and privacy-safe analytics events (for example feature funnels, RPC success/failure classes, and error categories). We do not send item names, notes, payment handles, invite tokens, receipt content, or exact bill amounts to analytics.
•
Local data on your device: session tokens, cached query data, and draft split data may be stored in secure storage or local database on your device to support offline use and faster loading.
3. How we collect information
We collect information when you register or sign in; create or join splits and groups; save profile or payment handles; scan receipts; enable notifications; share invite links; export or delete your account; or otherwise interact with the Service.
We also receive information from service providers that host authentication, databases, push delivery, and receipt OCR on our behalf.
4. How we use information
We use personal information to:
•
Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
•
Authenticate you and keep your session secure.
•
Calculate and display splits, balances, settlements, and payment status.
•
Let participants collaborate on shared bills and groups.
•
Send optional payment notifications you have opted into, including reminders to pay and notices when someone marks a payment as paid.
•
Open third-party payment apps with amounts and notes you confirm.
•
Enforce quotas, prevent abuse, and protect the integrity of invitations.
•
Respond to support requests and legal obligations.
•
Understand product reliability through redacted telemetry.
5. Legal bases (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process personal information on the following bases:
•
Contract: to provide the Service you request (account, splits, groups, invitations, calculations).
•
Legitimate interests: to secure the Service, prevent abuse, improve reliability, and send service-related communications, balanced against your rights.
•
Consent: for optional features such as push reminders and receipt scanning where consent is required.
•
Legal obligation: where we must retain or disclose information to comply with law.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
•
With other participants: people in the same split or group can see information needed to collaborate (for example names, claimed items, amounts owed, and settlement status). Payment handles are disclosed only when someone currently owes you money through the Service.
•
With service providers: companies that help us run SplitMe under contractual obligations, including Supabase (authentication, database, avatar storage), Google Cloud (receipt OCR when you scan), and Expo (push notification delivery). They may process data only to perform services for us.
•
With payment and platform providers: when you choose to pay through Venmo, Cash App, Apple Cash, or Messages, you leave SplitMe and those providers receive the information you confirm in their apps.
•
For legal reasons: if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, SplitMe, or the public.
•
Business transfers: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.
7. What we do not do
SplitMe does not process card payments, hold funds, or act as a bank or money transmitter. We do not use bill contents for advertising. We do not retain receipt photos in long-term cloud storage after OCR completes.
8. Cookies and similar technologies (web)
When you visit SplitMe on the web (for example an invite link or legal page), we and our providers may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies needed for authentication, session management, and basic site functionality. We do not use third-party advertising cookies on these pages.
9. Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
If you delete your account, we revoke sign-in access, delete payment handles and other private profile fields, and de-identify your display name in shared records (shown as "Deleted user"). Shared financial rows that other participants rely on for balance integrity may be retained in de-identified form.
Receipt images are processed transiently and not kept as stored media. Scan-attempt metadata may be retained for abuse prevention.
Push tokens become invalid when you disable notifications, sign out, or delete your account.
10. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict certain processing of your personal information, or to object to processing and withdraw consent where applicable.
You can update profile and payment handles, turn off payment notifications, and delete your account in the app. To exercise other rights, email us at the address in Section 16. We may verify your request before responding.

11. California privacy rights
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA, including the right to know categories of personal information collected, the right to delete, and the right to correct inaccurate information.
We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use sensitive personal information for purposes other than providing the Service. To submit a request, email us at the address below. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.
12. International transfers
SplitMe is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws than your country.
13. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and database row-level security. No method of transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Children
SplitMe is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
