SplitMe
Terms of Service
Last updated: September 20, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Kaevon Zanjani ("SplitMe," "we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of the SplitMe mobile application, websites (including splitme.expo.app), and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account, downloading, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
SplitMe helps groups split restaurant bills and track shared expenses. You can enter bill details manually or optionally scan a receipt, invite participants, claim items, calculate shares, record settlements, and open third-party payment apps with pre-filled amounts.
SplitMe is a calculation and coordination tool only. We do not process payments, hold customer funds, provide banking services, or verify whether money actually changed hands in Venmo, Cash App, Apple Cash, or any other external app.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your jurisdiction, if higher) and able to enter a binding contract to use SplitMe. If you use SplitMe on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
3. Accounts and security
You may register with email and password or, where available, Sign in with Apple. You agree to provide accurate information and keep your credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or pose a security risk.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
•
Use the Service for unlawful, fraudulent, harassing, or abusive purposes.
•
Access or attempt to access another user's data without authorization.
•
Scrape, probe, or overload the Service; bypass rate limits or quotas; or abuse invitation links.
•
Upload malware, illegal content, or content you do not have rights to share.
•
Misrepresent identities, payment status, or balances to defraud others.
•
Reverse engineer or copy the Service except where prohibited by applicable law.
5. User content
You retain ownership of content you submit (such as names, bill details, notes, and photos you choose to scan). You grant SplitMe a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, and display that content solely to operate and improve the Service for you and other participants in the same split or group.
You represent that you have the rights necessary to submit content and that your content does not violate law or third-party rights.
6. Shared records and account deletion
Splits and groups are collaborative. Other participants may continue to see shared financial history after you leave. If you delete your account, we de-identify your name in shared records (shown as "Deleted user") while preserving rows needed for others' balance integrity, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Account deletion is available in the app and requires recent authentication (password or Sign in with Apple, depending on how you created the account). Deletion revokes sign-in and removes private profile fields and payment handles.
7. Payment handoff
When you tap to pay, SplitMe opens a third-party app or URL with an amount and note you review and confirm. SplitMe does not guarantee that the external app will accept the payment, that the recipient will receive funds, or that reported payment status in SplitMe matches reality. Disputes over money are between participants and the relevant payment provider.
8. Receipt scanning
Receipt scanning is optional and uses automated OCR that may be incomplete or inaccurate. You must review and edit imported items before creating a split. Scanning is subject to fair-use quotas. Do not scan receipts containing information you are not authorized to share.
9. Notifications
If you enable payment notifications, SplitMe may send push notifications subject to your device settings. These may include reminders when you still owe a balance and notices when someone marks a payment as paid. You can disable them in the app or revoke notification permission in iOS Settings. Push delivery depends on Apple, Expo, and network conditions and is not guaranteed.
10. Third-party services
Venmo, Cash App, Apple, Google, Supabase, and other third parties are independent from SplitMe. Your use of those services is governed by their terms and policies. SplitMe is not responsible for third-party outages, fees, policy changes, or disputes.
11. Intellectual property
SplitMe and its logos, design, and software are owned by SplitMe or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Except for the limited rights expressly granted in these Terms, no license is granted to you.
12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SPLITME DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that calculations, synchronization, invitations, notifications, receipt scanning, or third-party handoffs will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free. You use SplitMe at your own risk and should verify amounts before paying others.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SPLITME AND ITS OPERATORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS (USD $50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
14. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SplitMe and its operators from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your content, your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.
15. Termination
You may stop using SplitMe at any time and delete your account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive (including disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnification).
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
Except where prohibited by law, you and SplitMe agree that any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. We will post the updated Terms on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance, except where applicable law requires additional consent.
18. General
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and SplitMe regarding the Service. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger or sale. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
